R.I.P. Lorne! Angel Wouldn’t Have Been the Same Without You

March 31, 2009

Actor and singer Andy Hallett has passed away, aged 33. Hallet, best known for his recurring role as Lorne in hit U.S. TV show Angel, died from heart failure following a five-year battle against heart disease. He landed his first break after he was dragged on stage at a concert to sing with Patti Labelle – the performance kickstarted his career as a singer-songwriter. Hallett was spotted during a revue at a Los Angeles nightclub by Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon, who created the demon character Lorne in the show’s spin-off Angel just for him. The star appeared in 76 episodes before series ended in 2004. Hallet’s subsequent ill health ended his acting career. He died on Sunday at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles, with his father Dave Hallett by his side.

Sylvia Plath’s Son Commits Suicide

March 23, 2009

Wow! This is truly a sad thing. Nicholas Hughes, son of famed poets Sylvia Plath and Ted Hughes, apparently took his own life at 47-years old. Until recently Hughes had a teaching post at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks’ school of fisheries and ocean sciences. He left that job to make pottery in a home studio, according to Lanny Berman, executive director of the American Association of Suicidology.

“It is with profound sorrow that I must announce the death of my brother, Nicholas Hughes, who died by his own hand on Monday 16th March 2009 at his home in Alaska,” his sister Frieda Hughes said in a statement published by The Times of London.

“He had been battling depression for some time,” the statement said.

“He was a loving brother, a loyal friend to those who knew him and, despite the vagaries that life threw at him, he maintained an almost childlike innocence and enthusiasm for the next project or plan,” it said.

We know that depression can be heredity, but can suicide be as well?

Give these ladies V.I.P. treatment at any restaurant in all the land!
While Edward M. Liddy, chief executive of A.I.G., made a feeble attempt to explain why as rest of America is fighting for sheer survival his company felt the need to give their employees million dollar bonuses, with taxpayer money, three of the coolest chicks in all the land, let him know how they felt.
Rock on ladies!

I want to be like Poppy in Happy Go Lucky and just not give a damn and just live. More movies like that please. Anyway, here is a film from Sam Mendes called Away We Go. Enjoy!
